Brian Cox said it last night on the telly - so it must be true ...

I'm not a Saggitarian after all!  surprised
There is, in fact, a thirteenth sign of the Zodiac which, for various reasons, has not been 'officially' included into our everyday zodiacal astrological charts.

What is Your True Astrological Zodiac Star Sign?

Did you ever think you didn't fit the mold for your star sign?

    Prepare yourself...

It is most likely you were born under a different star sign or zodiac than the one you have been led to believe. It's very easy to explain why and it's amazing that so few people know the truth.

Why is my star sign different?

You will probably know that a star sign or sign of the zodiac is based on a constellation of stars. Your star sign was given to you because the Sun was in your constellation at the time you were born. Right?

    Wrong!

The problem is, the Sun almost certainly wasn't in that constellation at all!

How can that be? People have been using star signs for thousands of years, so how can your star sign be wrong?

It's wrong because of a phenomenon called Precession of the Earth.

As the Earth orbits the sun, it spins on its axis. Early astrologers thought the axis was at a constant angle but it turns out that the earth has a very slow wobble - much like the wobble of a spinning top. The wobble takes 26,000 years to complete one revolution and while this sounds like a very long time this slight oscillation has a profound effect on the relative position of the Earth to the Sun and the stars.

You see, the dates for each of the signs of the Zodiac were defined such a long time ago they have become entrenched in modern thinking. All the newspapers and magazines continue to publish the wrong dates. The dates have never been updated to take the Earth's Precession into account so you probably aren't what you think you are!!!

The position of the stars is so different compared to the time of early astrology that the Sun actually passes through 13 constellations, not 12.

Don't believe us? Prove it to yourself - search Google for the word "precession". There are more than 1 million web pages on the subject! While you are there, search for the word "Ophiuchus". There are more than 250,000 pages about this constellation, many referring to it as the 13th star sign or 13th sign of the zodiac.

    The 13th sign - Ophiuchus

The astronomical zodiac actually contains 13 star signs – the 12 that we’re familiar with plus another one, called Ophiuchus.

Ophiuchus was deliberately left out of the original zodiac, over 2000 years ago, even though the Sun clearly passes in front of it after passing in front of Scorpius (commonly known as Scorpio) and before reaching Sagittarius. The reason for this is not known, but it may be because ancient astrologers wanted to divide the 360 degree path of the Sun in a mathematically pleasing way – 12 equal parts, each one of 30 degrees.

However the true boundaries that divide the constellations, as described by the International Astronomical Union, are far from equal. For example Ophiuchus is behind the Sun for a full 19 days of the year. That’s 12 days more than its neighbour, Scorpius.

So if you’re born between 30 November and 18 December – congratulations! You’ve won a new star sign on the astronomical zodiac.

The 13th Zodiac Sign – Ophiuchus

The 13th Zodiac Sign - Ophiuchus Epiphiuss

In mythology, Ophiucus is identified with the healer Asclepius, the son of Apollo, who was able to bring the dead back to life. Realizing his power, Hades convinced Zeus to kill Asclepius with a lightning bolt, and he was placed into the stars as a constellation after his death.

The constellation, Ophiuchus, has been known since ancient times, and is better known as Serpentarius, the Serpent Holder. It is included in the list of 48 constellations described by Ptolemy. Ophiuchus is depicted as a man handling a serpent; his body dividing the large snake into two parts, giving way to the symbol used today as an Asclepius – the medical staff. Astrologers have not included Ophiuchus in the wheel of Astrological signs because the Sun spends only about nineteen days in this 13th sign of the Mazzaroth. Not that there wasn’t a 13th sign in the Heavens, but as far as Astrologers were concerned, the Sun traveled from the constellation ‘Scorpius’ and then proceeded directly into the sign of Sagittarius. In reality, this was not the case. The Sun, for 19 days of the year, travels through the star constellation ‘Ophiuchus’ before entering Sagittarius from Scorpius – see chart below. thus The sign of Ophiuchus is patterned after the original ‘Serpent Holder’, Enki, a Sumerian god.

The signs of the Zodiac are for the most part, the highway, or path on which the Sun takes it’s yearly journey across the heavens – as it would appear to Earthlings. These signs are actually star constellations occupying space in which the Sun appears to travels in an earth year. The original twelve signs/constellations: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces are quite familiar to everyone, however, the thirteenth sign and constellation, [Ophiuchus], is in fact, not well known. To acknowledge a 13th sign now would seem awkward for astrologers, who like the tidiness of 12 signs that rule over the 12 houses of the Zodiac. The heavens are alive and they do change after a few thousand years and the astrologer who wants to maintain accuracy must change along with the signs in the heavens.

Ophiuchus 13th sign zodiac The constellation of Ophiuchus is the only sign of the Zodiac which is linked to a real man. This man lived in ancient Egypt around the 27th century BCE, and his name was Imhotep [again patterned after Enki]. Many of the same attributes of Imhotep can also be found in the Biblical Hebrew man Joseph, son of Jacob – [see comparison chart for these two men in separate article]. Imhotep is credited with many accomplishments including the knowledge and use of medicine. It is said of Imhotep that he brought the art of healing to mankind. The symbol of a serpent [or snake], which is still widely used today to represent the medical profession, was used to represent Imhotep. Imhotep was also known as ‘Aesclepius’ to the ancient Greeks, but by any name the attributes are still all the same. The attributes listed below describe the Serpent Holder, Imhotep, i.e. the Hebrew Joseph, and Aesclepius. The keyword descriptions seen below, originated with Betty Rhodes, and are the attributes for the 13th sign of the Zodiac – Ophiuchus:

    - interpreter of dreams, vivid premonitions,

    - attracts good luck and fruitful blessings,

    - serpent holder, lofty ideals, – a seeker of peace and harmony,

    - doctor of medicine or science, natural-pathic, – adds, increases, joins, or gathers together – poetical, inventive nature, expanding qualities,

    - architect, builder, reaches for the stars, figuratively and literally,

    - tax assessor, or levys taxes,

    - astrological talents, intuitive,

    - large family indicated, but apt to be separated from them when young,

    - the number twelve holds great significance,

    - foresight and good fortune to benefit from hard times,

    - has secret enemies in family or close associations,

    - many jealous of this subject,

    - notable father, apple of father’s eye when young,

    - high position in life expected [depending on aspects] highest fame and legend comes after death

Oh yes!  How did I miss that?  First I heard of it was when Brian Cox and Dara O'Briain were discussing it on the Stargazing programme the other day.  I have since looked it up and there's reams of stuff written about it all over the place, going back many years.

A suggestion made in a number of places, that the reason Ophiuchus has been excluded from the 'official' astrology charts is because of the association with there being an 'afterlife', 'spiritual healing', etc "the healer Asclepius, the son of Apollo, who was able to bring the dead back to life."   It's all connected to this real guy who actually lived on earth and who seemed to have been some kind of a medium and healer.  Of course, the establishment (being predominantly the Church for the most part) would have been averse to this kind of 'paganism' being peddled through the masses ... and so decided it best to ignore all the stuff about the earth's pregression and hide it away, out of view and out of the knowledge of the faithful flocks.

There is quite a strong (yet hidden) division between Astronomy and Astrology.  It's the Astronomers that talk about the existence of Ophiuchus as a Constellation, debating that the Astrologers (controlled by 'the establishment') are all wrong in their calculations.  Modern-day Astrologers of course would face enormous upheaval and stand to lose a lot of business, and indeed face much ridicule and embarrassment, if they were to acknowledge this 13th sign ....

    alien  Why now?  Hmm

Why is NASA "sensationally claiming" (officially) only now - that there are, in fact 13 signs of the Zodiac? confused

This report by Harry Brent in The Irish Post, today - 16th July 2020 :

'NASA claim there are now 13 star signs, with dates for different zodiacs given a reshuffle'

NASA have sensationally claimed that there are now 13 star signs, rather than 12.

The news was met by a mix of public confusion and even fury as people scrambled to find out of their zodiac had changed as a result

The 13th star sign is called Ophiuchus, which comes from the Greek word meaning 'serpent bearing', and is usually depicted by a man wrestling with a snake.
    The 13th Zodiac Sign - Ophiuchus Gettyi11
Sign on zodiac constellation The Ophiuchus (Serpentarius)

A NASA spokesperson explained the decision to include Ophiuchus, accusing the ancient Babylonians - who are behind the origin of the zodiac concept - of laziness:
"The line from Earth through the sun points to Virgo for 45 days, but it points to Scorpius for only seven days.
"To make it a tidy match with their 12-month calendar, the Babylonians ignored the fact the sun actually moves through 13 constellations, not 12.

To fit in a brand new zodiac in, the dates for the already known 12 have had to be shifted around slightly, but many are refusing to accept NASA's ruling.

Many took to social media to express their discontent with having to adopt a brand new star sign.

"Can someone explain to me why NASA is now telling us there's a 13th star sign and I've just been bumped from Sagittarius to the new one WHEN I'VE GOT THE STAG STAR SIGN TATTOOED ON MY ANKLE," wrote one unfortunate Twitter-user.

For anyone keen to know if their existence has been turned upside down, here's NASA brand new list of dates and their corresponding zodiac signs:

    • Capricorn: Jan 20 - Feb 15
    • Aquarius: Feb 16 - March 11
    • Pisces: March 12 - April 18
    • Aries: April 19 - May 13
    • Taurus: May 14 - June 21
    • Gemini: June 22 - July 20
    • Cancer: July 21 - Aug 10
    • Leo: Aug 11 - Sept 16
    • Virgo: Sept 17 - Oct 30
    • Libra: Oct 31 - Nov 23
    • Scorpio: Nov 24 - Nov 29
    • Ophiuchus: Nov 30 - Dec 17
    • Sagittarius: Dec 18 - Jan 20
