Very strange, isn't it, yet her DNA is normal as far as they can see.

I wonder if the three sisters are at risk of having children with Syndrome X.

I feel sorry for Brooke, it's obvious that sometimes she's very frustrated though she doesn't seem to have progressed much in other ways either, not just physically. Imagine if she had the mental age of a 16 year-old locked in the body of a 2-year old, that would be terrible for her.

The family are wonderful but I wonder what will happen in the future if Brooke outlives them all, not just her parents but her sisters too.

Is this a unique case world-wide? How could it have happened? There are a lot of questions that we cannot answer.

The girl who never ages Empty Hayley Okines and Progeria

Post by Stardust Mon 16 Jan 2017, 21:03

This made me think of Hayley Okines who suffered the opposite disease, progeria, accelerated ageing. I used to receive her newsletter then it stopped coming and an internet search didn't provide an answer at the time, though I supposed perhaps she'd taken a turn for the worse. Anyway, I just Googled again and discovered she passed away on 2nd April 2015. That's nearly two years and I only just found out.

She was very brave and did a lot of campaigning to make progeria known and collect funds for research into the disease.
