Aboard the International Space Station, Expedition 50 Commander Shane Kimbrough and Flight Engineer Peggy Whitson of NASA discussed upcoming spacewalk activity associated with the replacement of batteries on the station’s truss and other aspects of life and research on the orbital laboratory.

I love these guys. Both are presently in the International Space Station, up there over our heads right now circling the Earth. Spacewalk scheduled Friday 6th January for Peggy and Shane. Thomas goes out on 13th. Makes you starry-eyed to think of it.

Happy New Year 2017 to all the astronauts on the ISS.  happyheart

Been following the trajectory of the ISS and most of the time it seems to be over water. Lots of blue and white. I love when it's clear and night time over cities with all the lights twinkling.

Have to admit there's a lot of cloud and oceans.

Here's a good video from a previous expedition and you get to listen to Beethoven too.

This is a shorter version, below, only 2.50 minutes:

Been watching the end of the spacewalk (Shane and Thomas) live. Ooh, I love it!

Would you believe Peggy had odd socks on. Seems like even in space you can lose a sock.
Of course she could have done it on purpose - very pretty socks they were too.

If I hadn't been working I'd have watched the whole space walk - all 5 hours and 58 minutes of it.

Thomas Pesquet explaining the food on the ISS.

Thomas' Expedition 5O photos

Post by Stardust on 16th January 2017, 21:23

Expedition 5O photos taken by Thomas Pesquet from the International Space Station.

Be patient, some of them take a few seconds to show, but they're worth the wait.

Remember to click on the left or right arrow to pass to the next photo.
Also, if you place the computer arrow on the mini pictures at the bottom, each one has a title you can read.

Supermoon over Baikonur

Post by Stardust on 4th February 2017, 07:36

At the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan the supermoon rises above the launch pad where the Soyuz MS-03 spacecraft stands (November 2014). Baikonur Cosmodrome is the launch complex where Sputnik 1, Earth's first artificial satellite, was launched on 4th October 1957.

The Gravity Loading Countermeasure Skinsuit

Post by Stardust on 5th February 2017, 20:32

The Gravity Loading Countermeasure Skinsuit

The Skinsuit is designed to help prevent spine elongation during space missions and alleviate consequent lower back pain often suffered by astronauts.

Thomas Pesquet is wearing it to complete tests on the ISS to evaluate comfort, range of motion, and functionality during exercise.

More information about the Skinsuit here:

Re: Cosmic beauty

Post by Stardust on 13th February 2017, 18:09

First time I caught a sunrise and the signal was lost before it was finished. Such a pity, now I'll have to try and catch it another time.

I never tire of this, just imagine them up there on the ISS and all the wonders of seeing this marvellous planet in all it's blue beauty.

Sigh...

A new mosaic from ESA’s Mars Express shows off the Red Planet’s North polar ice cap and its distinctive dark spiralling troughs.
