Aboard the International Space Station, Expedition 50 Commander Shane Kimbrough and Flight Engineer Peggy Whitson of NASA discussed upcoming spacewalk activity associated with the replacement of batteries on the station’s truss and other aspects of life and research on the orbital laboratory.

I love these guys. Both are presently in the International Space Station, up there over our heads right now circling the Earth. Spacewalk scheduled Friday 6th January for Peggy and Shane. Thomas goes out on 13th. Makes you starry-eyed to think of it.

Happy New Year 2017 to all the astronauts on the ISS.  happyheart

Been following the trajectory of the ISS and most of the time it seems to be over water. Lots of blue and white. I love when it's clear and night time over cities with all the lights twinkling.

Have to admit there's a lot of cloud and oceans.

Here's a good video from a previous expedition and you get to listen to Beethoven too.

Been watching the end of the spacewalk (Shane and Thomas) live. Ooh, I love it!

Would you believe Peggy had odd socks on. Seems like even in space you can lose a sock.
Of course she could have done it on purpose - very pretty socks they were too.

If I hadn't been working I'd have watched the whole space walk - all 5 hours and 58 minutes of it.

Thomas' Expedition 5O photos

Post by Stardust on Mon 16 Jan 2017 - 21:23

Expedition 5O photos taken by Thomas Pesquet from the International Space Station.

Be patient, some of them take a few seconds to show, but they're worth the wait.

Remember to click on the left or right arrow to pass to the next photo.
Also, if you place the computer arrow on the mini pictures at the bottom, each one has a title you can read.

The Gravity Loading Countermeasure Skinsuit

Post by Stardust on Sun 5 Feb 2017 - 20:32

The Gravity Loading Countermeasure Skinsuit

The Skinsuit is designed to help prevent spine elongation during space missions and alleviate consequent lower back pain often suffered by astronauts.

Thomas Pesquet is wearing it to complete tests on the ISS to evaluate comfort, range of motion, and functionality during exercise.

More information about the Skinsuit here:

Post by Stardust on Tue 28 Feb 2017 - 0:40

Of course there are always those who cry "fake" and sow the seeds of doubt, who take pleasure in tarnishing the magic and spoiling the enjoyment of others.

Honestly, we can do without these killjoys who are inveterate pessimists preaching doom and gloom because they can only see darkness everywhere and not light.

If they want to think the astronauts are not really up in space but in a film studio, they are free to do so, but not to treat those who believe in the ISS as utter fools taken in by fraud, with all the different space agencies conniving to trick them.

These negative people should get a life and stop trying to ruin ours.

I love watching the ISS livestream, tracking their course around the Earth, reading all about it and following NASA updates.

Just watched one of the 16 daily sunrises on ISS Livestream. They're getting close up there, not sure if they'll be coming over my head, will keep checking. I have the Livestream in a parallel window.

8 am GB time just passed over Plymouth, Weymouth, Isle of Wight, Brighton..., not flying over me this time then.  8h02 they're already past Essen, Dortmund...

If you want to find out when the ISS is scheduled to fly over your location, go here:

https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/

then fill in your country, state/region, and city/town.
A list of days and times will appear for the present month (March now) for your location, as well as an indication of where to look in the sky.

Diet for energy

Post by Stardust on Fri 10 Mar 2017 - 20:45

The word "diet" doesn't sound very exciting, but Thomas' two day "diet for energy" meals sound ok, followed by 9 further days when he has to register the bar code of everything he eats. The results are compared with results from the same diet on Earth (also Thomas of course, the 10th astronaut to contribute to this experiment). This is important for future, longer, space missions.

Read more here:

What an adventure and how marvellous to be able to watch live the main points of the return mission throughout today, as well as keeping up with the ISS still in orbit around the planet.

Oleg and Thomas are safely back on Earth. happyheart
