Heartbroken dog tries to drag his injured pal to safety before mounting sad vigil

This heartbreaking footage reveals how a distraught dog frantically attempts to drag his injured pal to the side of the road, before mounting a sad vigil by his side.

Be prepared:  You will need a box of man-sized tissues.   crybaby

Having been struck by a car, the fatally injured white dog lies flat in the middle of the busy road, before his friend nudges him in an apparent attempt to revive him.

The worried canine then tries to drag his unmoving companion to safety, firstly trying to pull him by the scruff of the neck, before later dragging him with his paws.

However, he soon realises his efforts are in vain - perhaps sensing his pal can no longer be saved - and instead settles down in the middle of the road watching over him.

That's so sad, but did nobody attempt to at least save the remaining dog before it too got run over?

    Dare I say it? obgob

    OK then, I will. :thumb:

I think there may be a slight hint of fanciful interpretation there!

To me, the dog just looks like it's trying to play with the other one (by its demeanour: wagging its tail etc.) and it hasn't got a clue about what's really happened.

Well, the guy who took the video (on his mobile phone) did say this (from the link):

"The driver didn't stop, he just carried on, but I did stop because the first dog ran back in front of me and started nudging the dead one in the street.

"I didn't drive off straight-away because I was not sure if the dog was going to run in front of me again, and then was fascinated by the dog trying to wake up its clearly dead companion."

The footage went viral in the Central American country, with animal rights groups seizing on it to show that dogs deserve better treatment in Mexico.

Mr Madera added that before driving off he moved the dead dog to one side of the road and said there was nothing that could be done for the animal, as it had clearly been killed instantly.

How did I know you were going to say that, Umbo?  (I must be psychic or summat)

I must admit, I did notice (and wonder about) the wagging tail.

In a way, that makes it even sadder - the dog not knowing or understanding what had happened there.  sadd
