The twins who captured everyone's hearts when they revealed their very interesting secret to a long life have urged people to stick to the rules as they reveal they have both contracted Covid-19.

Lil Cox and Doris Hobday, from Tipton in England, went viral in September last year when they famously told ITV's This Morning that the secret to a long life was "no sex and plenty of Guinness".
The 96-year-old twins hold the record as being 'Britain's Oldest Twins', and have made several TV appearances in which their cheeky attitudes had audiences in stitches.

The pair have now made a more serious appeal, however, as they took to Facebook to urge people to stick to the rules to stop the spread of Covid-19 as they revealed they have both contracted the virus.
In a public post, Lil and Doris began their appeal with their trademark humour, writing "We have said in the past if him up there wants us... he's going to have to run fast!"
"We took a routine Covid test just before Christmas and it was negative. We have both stayed in over the Christmas period to keep safe and was lucky to have each other for company (sic).
"A few days ago Doris had a high temperature and Lil had a cough, so we took a 2nd test and unfortunately the results came back positive."

'Britain's Oldest Twins' had audiences in stitches when they claimed the secret to long life is 'no sex and plenty of Guinness'

The sisters say there are "both in shock" as "we have been inside for most of 2020 sticking to all the rules and being careful, now this has happened and we can’t work out why or where we’ve picked it up from."
Stating that they wrote the post in the hope that they can "save people from getting this horrible virus", Lil and Doris said "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take this seriously".
"COVID is real and it's affecting so many lives across the world.
"Don't let it affect yours or your families."
The sisters signed off with another joke, referencing the time Lil said she would love a date with the film star, as they wrote:
"We are running faster than ever because we both aren’t ready yet... we still haven’t met Jason Statham!"
Lil and Doris added that they will keep their followers updated on their health and sent their best wishes to all their supporters, urging them to keep safe.

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, who interviewed the hilarious sisters in 2020, asked people to say a prayer for the "wonderful ladies" as they battled the virus.
Taking to Twitter, Morgan said: "Very sorry to hear that Doris & Lillian, Britain's oldest identical twins who gave @GMB viewers so many laughs earlier this year, are now both battling Covid.
"Say a prayer for them- they're such wonderful ladies."

Update Doris Hobday, one of beloved 'Guinness twins', has passed away from Covid-19 aged 96

Post by Kitkat Wed 20 Jan 2021, 12:50

Doris Hobday has lost her battle with Covid-19 and has passed away at age 96, her family have confirmed.

Known as one half of 'Britain's Oldest Twins', Doris, along with her sister Lil, became national treasures when they appeared on TV to proclaim that their secret to long life was "no sex and plenty of Guinness".
In early January, Doris and Lil announced that they had both contracted Covid-19, and that they were "in shock" as they had followed all the rules, kept their contacts low and remained inside.
They appealed to people to stick to the guidelines to remain safe, but kept their trademark humour, writing ""We have said in the past if him up there wants us... he's going to have to run fast!"

'Britain's Oldest Twins' left audiences in stitches with their quick wit and good humour as they made multiple TV appearances, including one where they announced the secret to their long life was "plenty of Guinness".

Now their family have made the heartbreaking announcement that Doris passed away on 5 January, writing she was "still running fast but unfortunately had some hurdles put in her way and she wasn’t strong enough to fight Covid."

"Shortly after our last post Doris and Lils health deteriorated very quickly," a family member wrote on Facebook, alongside a memorial video to Doris.

"We are devastated to announce that Doris didn’t make it...she passed away on Tuesday 5th January after a short stay in hospital."

They thanked the doctors and nurses involved in Doris's care at the end of her life, and for allowing her great-niece Kerry to remain with her in her last moments as the 96-year-old passed away.

On the same day, Doris's sister, Lil, was also rushed to hospital, and "had the fight of her life" for two weeks as she was received treatment "to keep her alive".

"Lil has fought so hard and I’m pleased to inform everyone that she was discharged from hospital on Monday," the statement reads.

Lil was only told of her sister's death "once she was strong enough to take the news", and is being comforted by family as she recuperates in her daughter Vivien's home.

"We are aware they are both 96 years old and we have been so lucky to have them in our lives for such a long time," their family wrote.
"But they were both still going strong before this virus got them and both were determined to live until 100... They had so much to look forward to... it’s just so cruel that Covid has stopped Doris like this."
They offered their condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one throughout the pandemic, and again urged people to "take this seriously".
Tragically, Doris was "only a few weeks from being safe", as her family revealed she received her vaccination invite just two days after she passed away.
"If you are offered the vaccine please take it," they wrote. "Do not refuse it.
    "Doris didn't get this choice."

Update One half of beloved 'Guinness twins' brands Boris Johnson a ‘bloody w****r’ over handling of pandemic

Post by Kitkat Sun 24 Jan 2021, 18:23

One half of the beloved “Guinness” twins has branded Boris Johnson a “bloody w****r” over his handling of the pandemic, after losing her sister to the virus.

Britain's oldest identical twins, Lilian Cox and Doris Hobday became national treasures when they appeared on TV to proclaim that their secret to long life was "no sex and plenty of Guinness".
In early January, Doris and Lilian announced that they had both contracted Covid-19, and that they were "in shock" as they had followed all the rules, kept their contacts low and remained inside.

They appealed to people to stick to the guidelines to remain safe, but kept their trademark humour, writing ""We have said in the past if him up there wants us... he's going to have to run fast!"

Doris sadly passed away on January 5 after a two-week battle with the virus.

Lilian and Doris lived inseparable lives. They had houses on the same street, worked on in the same West Midlands factory and even lived next door to each other in the same assisted living complex.

Known to many as the Tipton Twins, the sisters had made a pact to reach the age of 100 together.

Lilian only learned of her sister’s death two weeks after being discharged, having successfully recovered from the virus.

In one of their last conversations, she had called Doris and begged her to “fight for her life”.

Doris died just two days before the letter, confirming her date for vaccination against the virus, arrived in the post.

Speaking to the Sunday People, Lilian said it was “not fair” that she had not only lost her sister but also her “best friend.”

She also hit out at the UK government’s inability to control the spread of the virus.
“We came into the world together. She was two hours older than me and we shared everything,” she said.
"The nurses and doctors were fantastic but Boris is a bloody w****r.
“I think lockdown should have happened a lot earlier – then there would not have been half as many deaths."
Lilian is currently recovering at her daughter Vivien’s home and has launched a fundraiser in memory of her sister for the Beacon Centre for the Blind.

The centre helped Doris’ late husband Raymond when he lost his eyesight in the final few years of his life.
