    The US Space Agency Nasa has released new footage showing a series of powerful solar flares.

    There have been a number of eruptions on the surface of the sun in the last week.

    Some have warned that this explosion of energy might have a serious impact here on earth.

    The BBC's Tim Allman explains.

    Fantastic footage.  Isn't it great how they are able to capture such wonders as well as explaining what it's all about.

    I've always been fascinated by the Aurora Borealis (spelling?) or "Northern Lights" but never knew anything about how or why it happened.
