    That could be comforting if it was not for the fact that it does not mention the bad experiences that some people have or that people see different beings of light according to their beliefs. This suggests to me that brain function is not dead and therefore neither is the experiencer.

    Yes, the IANDS site has a vast reportage and summarisation of NDEs experienced by people from all walks of life.

    Take a look at the NDE section on LAL also - lots of stuff of varying interest there (with mention of the IANDS site also): http://lightafterlife.freeforums.org/near-death-experiences-nde-f93.html

    Lastly (but certainly not least), here is an excellent amalgamation of discussions, documentaries, accounts etc - all on the subject of NDE - (Heaps of reading, watching and listening in this long, interesting thread on the Skeptiko site):
