    Maggie's Cancer Care Centre   https://www.maggiescentres.org/how-maggies-can-help/

Maggie’s offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Help is offered freely to anyone with any type of cancer. Simply drop-in at any time - you’re always welcome.

This place helped me tremendously after my treatment had finished.   I still pop in occasionally but, shame, I wasn't able to go to Maggie's on that date.  I would really love to have listened to what Professor Thomas had to say and especially to have had a chance to participate in the Q&A session afterwards.

On Tuesday 12 May fifty of our Centre visitors joined us for a talk about lifestyle and cancer from Professor Robert Thomas, Consultant Oncologist and Lifestyle Researcher.

Professor Thomas spoke about his book: Lifestyle after Cancer: The Facts, which describes learning how to live stronger for longer. Professor Thomas currently works at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and is specialising in Breast, Urology and Colorectal cancers.

The talk lasted 50 minutes with an additional 30–35 minutes for a Q&A session. Additional time was also given to individuals who approached him afterwards.

The talk was focused on empirical evidence and stressed the importance of lifestyle after cancer, encouraging people to take up exercise and eating particular food such as polyphenol rich foods. The evening also highlighted the importance of being an active participant when living with cancer.

All the team here at Maggie's West London would like to express their thanks for the wonderful evening. We have had lots of really positive feedback shared with us by guests from the night.

Book Description for Lifestyle After Cancer, The Facts:
Cancer and major illnesses, this book explains the reasons why food and diet, personal habits and environmental factors can increase or decrease the risk. Lifestyle and cancer dispels the myths and addresses the evidence behind the practical lifestyle choices which confront us all on a daily basis.
The author, Professor Robert Thomas is a cancer specialist well known for his innovative lifestyle research for which he was awarded "Hospital Doctor of the Year" and "Oncologist of the Year".

Very frustrating and annoying.  angry  The book is available as an e-book, but seems you have to have a Kindle to download it - I can't seem to find a way to get it onto my Kobo.  The annoying bit of this is that Amazon have got a contract with Kindle and obviously try to promote the Kindle and so don't go out of their way to make it easy for people to download onto a Kobo (obviously competitors).  Grrrr ....

KK, you can download an electronic pdf version from here  http://www.cancernet.co.uk/books.htm

Then if you have an online Kobo account you can transfer it to your Kobo reader.  :thumb:

Thanks so much for that, Whiskers.  :thumb:   A fraction of the price Amazon are charging for the book - AND added bonus that it is a really good site that you have linked to.   tacat
Cancernet-UK is a resource for individuals and their families living with and after cancer. It describes the treatments, their side effects and  tips on how to cope with them. Professionals and patients have teamed up to provide evidence based advice  emphasising the benefits of self help and lifestyle to improve well-being, reduce the risk of relapse and improve long term fulfilling survival.

Also, book sales proceeds go towards cancer research.

AMAZON - you know what you can do with your kindle swindle ........    stickit

    No probs Kitkat.  Smile

You might also find this link useful   http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/free-epub-books-online.htm

This is a listing of 101 sites that offer all their ebooks for free download in ePub format.  In particular, this is a source for those who have a Nook, iPad, Kobo or several other readers and phones.  About the only device that does not support ePub is Amazon's Kindle and there is a Free Books for Kindle page here at Gizmo's.  You do not have to have a device to read these books as there is a Nook application and other readers that may be used for your computer and other devices.

Well, I have bought the book (the electronic PDF version) which is being emailed to me, and hopefully there shouldn't be any problem downloading onto my Kobo Reader.

Meanwhile, here is a sample chapter from the book, available free to read here.

    http://www.cancernet.co.uk/bk-lifestyle-chapters-sample.pdf

It includes a Foreword by Paula Radcliffe.
