I came across this course today and stuck a little blog entry here: http://www.critical-thinking.org.uk/blog/open-university-moons-of-the-solar-system.php

    I've enrolled for it!

I haven't done one of these before so I can't say how good it will be but if it's of typical OU standard, it should be good.

There's also quite a few other free courses available on the site too so I might start working my way through them.

I'll be an even bigger smart arse than ever then!  obgob

Anyone else tempted to try it?

Had a look at the other courses available on that site.  The one about 'Causes of War' sounds interesting.  Can't imagine how they can possibly attempt to fit that one into a few weeks  Hmm , but it could be worth checking it out.  :thumb:

You might be interested in this, Umberto - on BBC4, Sunday night at 10:00 pm.

Sky at Night: The sounds of the universe

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-26464396

While sound can't travel directly through the vacuum of space, there is noise in the universe. From a distant star collapsing in on itself, to an aurora on another planet in our Solar System.

The Sky At Night: Sounds of the Universe is on Sunday 9 March at 10pm on BBC Four. It will be available afterwards on BBC iPlayer.

There is a short video preview in the link above.

Yes, I've finally got round to finishing my content management system. I'm now updating the old, crap content for new crap content.

And adding important articles such as this one: http://www.critical-thinking.org.uk/general-articles/humour/word-play.php

Well that's all I'm doing really. I've chosen a simple course (I've studied astronomy before with the OU) to see how good it is.

I think that quite a lot can be covered if they stick to the basics. The knowledge will be superficial in many ways but should be sufficient to grasp the concepts.

This type of online learning seems to be something universities are doing more of. I've found a few rather good looking free courses.

It's the sort of thing I love so I expect I'll be doing quite a few.
