Re: Songs from the heart
An all-time favourite for me is Roberta Flack's version of Carole King's "Will You Still love me tomorrow", from her 1971 album "Quiet Fire". We uploaded that one song to Youtube several years ago but it hasn't been available for ages. But I found it a few minutes ago, on a Russian site.

I actually heard (and saw) Gladys Knight sing this song at Bailey's Nightclub in Watford. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

and my most favourites of all time, both with very special meaning to me:
In memory of my Dad
No-one could sing this beautiful but sad song like my mother did, but this is one of the best from the heart renditions I have heard

Re: Songs from the heart
Beautiful photos on that last video.
The first one had me weeping in my coffee. I guess we all get caught out when time creeps up and without warning snatches away those we love, leaving so much we never got around to saying and the sudden awful realization that now it's too late.
Kitkat, thank you for posting those two and for sharing the boundless love that shines out.

Don't put the hankies away yet, cos this one will choke you up again, but the message is clear and from the heart - and very important.
This one will bring the smiles back.

Gosh! A very young Bee Gees there. I hadn't realised they'd been going so long.Blowing In The Wind (1963) - Bee Gees
I like all their earlier stuff (like Don't Forget To Remember posted above) - before Saturday Night Fever etc ...
but wow! they were just kids when they started off.
This one, I couldn't find a visual of Al Green singing the song (though I have seen one somewhere before), but anyway you don't have to see it - you just know every note comes right from the heart - you can feel it ...
Same with this one:

A voice new to me - and a beautiful one, exploiting the exotic sounds of the Portuguese language. How good the English translation is, I have no idea, but the sound is one I want to hear more of.

Reminds me of a beautiful song I heard years ago when I was in Morocco. Such a voice and such a sad air. I loved it so much I bought the record (yeah, that'll tell you how long ago it was - a 45 vinyl!). No idea what he was singing about but it almost brought me to tears every time I heard it.
I later was told the story that, far from being an impassioned deliverance from a sad, heartbroken individual, the singer was actually a guy who had been in prison in Morocco (don't know what his crime was) and during his incarceration he wrote this sychophantic song praising the then king of Morocco. The king was so enamoured to hear all these wonderful things being said about him, that he personally arranged for the guy's release from prison. The song got put on record (yep, that's the one!). He then became one of the Arab world's most famous and celebrated singers (Abdeladi Belkhayat).

Gisela João.
Nothing about potatoes. This is the translation from the Youtube video.
Doesn't make much sense to me. But what do I know?
But still, I love the voice. Here, she sings, with Portuguese text. It's sort of melancholic, but hypnotic, like Fado generally, so you can get the drift.

(Shipwreck) I put my dream on a ship and the ship on the sea then I opened the sea with my hands so my dream could go down
My hands are still wet with the blue, with the blue of the opened waves and the colour running from my fingers turns the deserted sands blue
The wind comes from far away the night curves with the cold underwater my dream is dying inside a ship
I will cry as much as I need to make, to make the sea rise higher so my ship can reach the bottom and my dream can disappear

More from Gisela João.
She's gone all electronic now. I don't know what others think(?) ... The beautiful voice is still there, but I do feel that some of the magic has been lost now with all this digital stuff.
(Compare this with the first video on this page, posted by bimbow.)
