Delicious and nutritious

Post by Stardust on Fri 06 Jan 2017, 06:45

I found another site, "Naturally Ella", with so many delicious (and nutritious) recipes that I don't know which one to try first. The mouth-watering photos on there make you want to try them all at once.
https://naturallyella.com/

There's an "Explore an Ingredient" option which tells you all about that particular ingredient, including how to buy, cook, store, and the different varieties.

Some good recipes here too (not just veggies):

Porridge

Post by Stardust on Tue 10 Jan 2017, 09:34

Up to now I always ate my porridge plain, with either salt or brown sugar, but this weekend I was given a lovely present of a book containing a section about porridge followed by recipes, using fruit, etc.

I tried it with grated Brazil nuts, banana, cinnamon and a touch of brown sugar. It was good.

I shall by trying out the other recipes and inventing some of my own now, though I still love it plain.

Porridge is the best breakfast food. :thumb:

Was going to put these in the Chat Box room, but since there was only me I'll just have to eat them on my own.

agree   ... and to save it becoming boring, I usually have something different in mine each time; like it with fruit of any kind or raisins/nuts etc.  Sometimes just stir some muesli into the porridge.

I have dates and walnuts so I'll use those next time I have porridge.

I've got some red fruit Muesli and a couple of other kinds so I'll try your suggestion, Kitkat.

I also use soy or almond milk mixed with water.

Vegan pancakes

Post by Stardust on Sun 29 Jan 2017, 12:11

Soon be Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day.

You'll find a good pancake recipe here made with SF flour, soya milk, custard powder and sugar for the basic batter. You can add fruit to the batter or to the pancakes once cooked, plus traditional toppings.

Post by Stardust on Mon 30 Jan 2017, 14:48

Emilie Raffa has a marvellous cookery blog: http://www.theclevercarrot.com/

Lots of delicious choices here - salads, snacks, soups, ideas for dinner, pasta & grains, desserts & baking, muffins, quick breads & scones, breads & doughs, breakfast & brunch, dressing & sauces, drinks & cocktails, veggies & sides (my favourite), tips & tricks:

The recipes are clear, well set out and easy to follow. The comments and little stories are a bonus, the photos are absolutely mouth-watering and the results are scrumptious.

I wish I'd had the chance on my one and only time in Brussels, to visit Pierre's place and the interesting parts of Brussels he takes us to in that video. My only memory of my time in Brussels is the European Commision building - as one of our travelling companions (6 of us - in two cars, travelling from London to Amsterdam one Easter weekend) had insisted on seeing the building to take photos. I found it all rather boring, but obviously we hadn't ventured into the old part of the city, and Brussels was just a passing-through stop-off before getting to our intended destination. Neutral

I took a look aliya124 and there are some great recipes, though not so many for vegetarians. The "Karahai Bhindi aur Aalu" made my mouth water, I'll have to try that one. Thanks for the link.

A gardening site (Dutch, Bakker) but some good recipes with "forgotten" vegetables: chard, Jerusalem artichokes, kohlrabi, parsnip, salsify, swede, Tuscan kale.

https://www.bakker.com/en-gb/c/kitchen-garden/vegetables1/forgotten-vegetables

There's also a pumpkin soup recipe, just in time for Halloween. witchy
