The £1 Café Empty The £1 Café

The London cafe where everything is £1

Hmmm ... must go and look this place up!   :thumb:

Is it a sign of austerity, or just an intriguing business model? BBC News visits a cafe in central London that is testing selling all its food and drink for £1.

The inspiration came from similar shops in Israel and New Zealand, explains owner Jo Kaye.

Sign on the door of the £1 Café says:

    NOW CLOSED

12 months ago Caffix set its self a mission to enable the people of London to “eat fresh, pay less”. Freshly made, quality, tasty food, and premium Italian espresso coffee were the founding principles.

We are proud to say we never waivered from this, and were so delighted to be making a difference and putting a smile on the faces of so many people.

We are now taking the opportunity to close the shop at 45 Newman Street, and review the business over the last year.

This is not necessarily “good bye”, but “see you later”.

We would like to thank all those who have supported the Caffix mission and helped with the little revolution, your custom, patronage and support has been amazing.

    With thanks,
    The Caffix Team

Ah well ... It was good while it lasted.  Very Happy

Did potatoes ruin the '£1 cafe'?

In December we reported on a cafe in central London that was causing a stir by offering to sell every food item at a fixed price of £1.

It appeared to be doing good business, but closed suddenly in April, citing a need to "refine the concept".

Video journalist Dougal Shaw tracked down Jo Kaye to another cafe he runs, to find out what happened.

Well, at least he tried. :thumb: As he says in the video, it's not a failure; it was an experiment. Some people are too scared of failure, to even try something. If everybody thought that way we would still be back in the Dark Ages.
