    This looks interesting:

Cat Watch 2014: What’s it like being a cat?

Cats are at a crucial point in their evolutionary journey as they transform from solitary hunters to domestic pets, a study by the BBC and the Royal Veterinary College has revealed.

Our felines are adapting quickly to life in densely-packed cities, changing their behaviour to fit in with our 21st Century lives.
They are time-sharing territory with other cats, killing less prey and learning to communicate with each other and people,
research for BBC Two's Cat Watch 2014 found.

In the first of a three-part series on the lives of modern domestic cats, we look at how our pets experience the world.

Did you happen to see 'The Secret Life of Cats' on ITV a week or so ago?

(Not talking about the BBC Horizon programme, similarly named, featuring Obi Wanker  giggle  - this was a different programme altogether).

    This one:
    http://metro.co.uk/2014/06/03/17-very-important-feline-facts-we-learnt-from-itvs-the-secret-life-of-cats-4748338/

    1. Most importantly, cats are the most popular domesticated animal in the whole wide world. Take that, dogs.

    2. There are 8.5 million cats in the UK right now, and that’s more than humans who live in London. Seriously.

    3. Cat owners are a third less likely to suffer from heart disease than non cat owners. YES.

    4. A litter of cats don’t necessarily all have the same dad, that’s one reason why they’re all different colours. In a built-up city 75 per cent of litters born to a mum cat will have two or more fathers – cats can get pregnant by different cats at the same time. Who knew?

    5. When a mum cat licks her kitten’s fur, she’s embedding her scent onto the kitten so that if she gets lost she will be able to smell her way back to her.

    6. And when we stroke a cat, they like it because it reminds them of being cleaned by their mum.

    7. Cats HATE us touching their feet. It’s the most sensitive part of their body because they walk on tip toes at all times.

    8. If our eyes were in proportion to our bodies the way that cat’s are, we’d have eyes the size of tennis balls.

    9. Cats can only see yellow and blue, anything with red and green in appears grey to them.

    10. Cats are also long-sighted. That’s why when you drop a treat right in front of them and you think they’re an idiot for not being able to see it, they actually just can’t see it. It helps them hunt.

    11. Cats like it if you give them a slow blink to say hello, it’s a great way to gain trust with a cat you’ve just met in the street.

    12. Cats hear when they’re asleep. Unlike humans, whose hearing shuts off when they’re asleep and switches back on when a loud noise wakes them, cats have hearing on all the time. How do they get any shut eye?

    13. Once, a cat fell 19 floors and, not only survived, but didn’t break a SINGLE bone. True story.

    14. Cats have a reputation for having nine lives because of the way they save themselves when they fall. They twist themselves onto their fronts and exapnd their legs to take them into a parachute shape which slows them down. When they’re nearing the floor they pull their legs back in for impact. Clever.

MORE: The secret to cats having nine lives has apparently been revealed

    15. Cats purr when they’re nervous or scared and not just when they’re content. Oh.

    16. Their senses are so incredible that they can hear a mouse scratching 30 feet away. A-mazing.

    17. Almost all white cats are deaf.

I wish now I had recorded it.  There might be a playback available somewhere - if I can find it, it's well worth watching, if only for the wonderful pairing of the [big] dog who is totally blind and a cat who lives in the same house.  These two do everything together, including sleeping together.  The cat takes him out for a walk, dog following cat, with the cat walking ever so slowly in front, clearing any obstacles in his way.  It was just wonderful to watch these two.  cat

I did start watching it but it was rather poor to be honest. Too much in the way of silly anecdotes of stupid stories and not enough factual content.

I'm hoping this new one is a little better.

I found this video clip showing the blind dog and cat that were featured in 'The Secret Life of Cats'

The cat, called 'Pudditat', is the spitting image of my beautiful Pepsi, who died just over a year ago. Sad
The only thing different is that Pepsi had a tip of white on his tail.

That's a good example of the sort of stupidity I'm on about. The cat doesn't know the dog is blind. It probably just lived in a house with dogs in it before it strayed.

I hope tonight's programme is more factual and much, much less fanciful.

There is an offer of an interactive ebook to go with  the programme - A Guide to your Cat .

An owner’s guide to cats, offering expert advice on how to care for your cat alongside the latest scientific analysis, interactive features and plenty of fascinating case studies.

I don't think I have any of the necessary instruments on which to download this book, but hopefully there will be a way to upload it here at some stage when the programme is finished. (Two more episodes to be broadcast - tomorrow and Thursday).

In case you missed the first episode, or would just like to watch it again, you can do so here arrow   link

Aside: (Great documentary followed straight after tonight's episode - presented by the gorgeous Brian Cox; did anyone see it?) - Human Universe (Episode 1 of 5)

The only new thing I learnt, which I hadn't known before, was where they said how kittens from the same litter can actually be from different 'dads'.  surprised
Our two (Pepsi and Poppy) were actually brother and sister from the same litter - but as different in every way (looks and characteristics etc) as they could be. Pepsi (the male) was a big beefy laid-back, gentle tabby - and markings were the image of their mum.  Poppy on the other hand was a cute, small boned delicate but fiery tempered and always on the ball black and white female, literally half his size. When we went to see them for the first time, the woman had said something about them being from different dads (there was one other black and white in the litter also) - and I laughed when she said that, thinking that it was a joke.
As they explained on the programme, some naughty little pussies can actually be impregnated by more than one tom at the same time. surprised shtum , so obviously P&P's mum had been spreading it around a bit.

All I can say to that is - I'm so glad neither of them are still around to hear the truth about their colourful family history. cheesy

Yeah, I thought it was quite good. There wasn't anything ground breaking or insightful but it was free from the anthropomorphising that usually accompanies such programmes.

I would have liked to have learned more about cat to human communication. I was pleased to see that cats who display their underside to us do so when they're comfortable and confident with the person they're interacting with as Minghous Pahparr does that for us.
