Mother Teresa of India, awarded Nobel Peace Prize  1979

In 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitutes a threat to peace.” She didn’t attend the ceremonial banquet, but asked that the $192,000 fund be given to the poor.

but how much love we put in the doing.
It is not how much we give,
but how much love we put in the giving.”

Reading that link, Whiskers, it tells of five other 'notable' happenings in history on this day (19th October) - all of which are far more 'notable' and readable (for me anyway) than that dumb stuntman craving attention and 'allegedly' starving himself inside a box!

What d'you reckon folks - Which is the most interesting, history-making event out of all six ?

Stories From 19 Oct

1989: Guildford Four released after 15 years

2004: British aid worker kidnapped in Iraq

1987: Shares plunge after Wall Street crash

1954: 'Metal fatigue' caused Comet crashes

1977: Kidnapped German found dead

I like David Blaine KK.   I agree all the other things are probably more newsworthy but my source only lists one thing for each day and they must be a David Blaine fan like me. Smile

Moving swiftly on to the headline for today.  shtum
