Not a soul on the streets around here today. The roads uncannily and uncharacteristically quiet and abandoned this morning. They're all probably up there or indoors watching it all on the telly.

Well even I watched the ceremony! The Royal Wedding Shocked

I'm getting rather bored with it now with all the religious pontification so I think I'll watch some snooker.

Beautiful. Kate looks stunning. Wills too.

This bit is a bit boring though.

Did you see Beatrice and Eugiene's hats. Bloody awful. They looked like teletubbies with aerials on their heads.

yeah she did. lol. I reckon her mum dressed her in that in protest to not being invited. Worse thing was, she was sat directly behind the queen and all you could see were those antlers. pmsl. The Royal Wedding 4274503960 The Royal Wedding 4274503960 The Royal Wedding 4274503960

If I was to marry now, I fear that I would be more Miss Haversham than Miss Middleton The Royal Wedding 1197659321

The only thing that p****d me off was the oppressive religious content. The Church of England has the Royalty in its clutches. I pity them for that. I hated the way it was stated that the union between Wills and Kate was like the union between Christ and his church. What a load of b******s!! Some of the other royals must have been cringeing at the other things the clergy said about marriage.
The couple themselves were just a picture. Everything else was perfect.Good luck to them both. I think they'll need it. The Royal Wedding 1121757446

When the religious clap-trap started I did actually wonder whether either of them is truly religious. It wouldn't surprise me if either or both of them were atheists - it's not uncommon these days.

Of course, the monarch is the head of the Church of England, so even if they aren't faith heads, they'd have to go along with it.

I must say, I find the notion of royalty and what it stands for to be something of an anachronism but if we need a head of state, I'm not sure we can come up with anything better (president Blair? The Royal Wedding Lipsrsealed).

It does seem that he's genuinely married the woman he fell in love with (although I'm sure there was plenty of vetting to make sure she was suitable) and this will hopefully give them a better chance than the ill-fated marriage of his parents.

    Indeed.

I was never really interested in the Royals until Diana came on the scene. I was only 11 when they got married so I really got caught up in it, she was beautiful. I know that the press called her "Sly Di" at first but I just saw insecurity and shyness. Diana was the only Royal who has ever got to me and I felt a deep sorrow on the day that she died. Camilla was the reason that the marriage failed. She never walked away to give them a chance. I don't like her and the day we have to acknowledge her as a Queen will be the day that I stop showing any interest in the Royal family. Diana did more for the monarchy than Camilla ever could. In my eyes, she brought them into the modern age and gave the monarchy a new lease of life. William and Harry carry on her legacy. If I was Diana and I was floating around the abbey on Friday, I would have definately have put some effort into tripping Camilla up! The Royal Wedding 40742102

I agree. I dislike Camilla. If it wasn't for her, Diana would still be here with us to have enjoyed seeing her son married.
Personally, I think Charles should abdicate and let the young ones take over the job (when he gets it). I just cannot see anyone taking to 'Queen Camilla'.
They have what they wanted 'each other'. They should now live quietly together and bow out.

Well this is the reality of having a monarchy. Charles will be king one day and Camilla will be queen. We have no say in the matter and we can't vote them out.

Thankfully, William does seem to be sensible and will hopefully do a good job as king in the future but imagine if Harry had been born first!

Or a girl. Oh no, that makes no difference as the system is stuck in the middle ages.

I don't bear any grudges against Camilla. It takes 2 to tango. Anyway, nobody has much control over whom they love or whom they don't love. I see it in this way--Charles was wrong to marry Diana in the 1st place when his heart always belonged to Camilla. Mind you, he would have been put under enormous pressure to produce an heir so , to me , that makes what he did understandable if not morally justifiable. Camilla and Charles are just as much in love as Wills and Kate. I'm heart sorry for what Diana went through but she's gone so there's no point in "looking back in anger". Live and let live. We all make mistakes. We would do better not to judge the mistakes of others.

Feather, you are a better person than me.

I would be lying if I said that I have never felt a little sympathy for both Charles and Camilla somewhere along the line. Their love affair began in 1970 and Charles wanted to marry her then but the royal courtiers put the boot in saying that she was unsuitable for a future King. So she got married, had kids, became Charles's mistress and even though she is so much more unsuitable to be Queen now than she was in the beginning.....it's a distinct possibility that she will be. Although it's still said that her title would be The Princess Consort. So the Palace and it's wisdom is at the root of the whole farce? That's as far as my sympathy goes because he stood by while they used an obviously sensitive woman, as a breeding machine. Diana was never going to be able to turn a blind eye to Charles and Camilla was she? Camilla was never out of the picture, she was there during the wedding and it's said that Charles wore a pair of cufflinks from her on his honeymoon which Diana was aware of. Also he took a picture of her with him. Camilla should have walked away and gave them a chance but she didn't. Diana was treated badly by Charles and she was treated badly by other members of the "Firm". The fact that he loved another woman did not give him the right to treat Diana (who seemingly loved him in the beginning and gave birth to his sons), like dirt. My respect for her comes from her turning things to her advantage. She made good use of her connections and flicked the bird to them all.

Recent polls are still showing Camilla to be unpopular with something like 14% of people polled willing to accept her as Queen. It will damage the monarchy if Charles takes to the throne imo...he should step aside for William.

----and yet many believe Diana was well aware of the situation with Camilla before she married Charles and her sister had also been involved with him. That relationship failed for the same reason. Diana still went ahead with the marriage after a very short courtship. I know she was young but I do feel she was intent on being part of the royal family and being Queen one day. I've read that she had a volatile temper and would scream and have tantrums as a child if she didn't get her own way. She was a clever woman and knew what she had to do to become "the people's princess".
I'm not saying I necessarily accept that she was astute and manipulative but I do think it's possible. On the surface, it seems as if Charles is the "bad guy" but, looking deeper, it's not as clear cut as that.
