Whiskers, KK will have a laughing fit when she sees that.   giggle

No, it's not me, but I used to have a tartan bonnet like his - with long ginger hair down the sides. sidestep

giggle   I was going to say it looks very "Scottish" but I didn't have the impression you were from Scotland.

Don't know if its the same for everyone, but I have a picture in my mind of what everyone on the forum looks like and was surprised because that's not at all how I pictured you. drunken

My Mum was a Scot, and I've been there many times for holidays, but I was born in Birmingham.

I know what you mean about having a picture in your mind about forum members.  It's interesting that, when I have met some in person, they have NEVER turned out to look as I had imagined. lololol

Yes, I know exactly what you both mean.   I have had the privilege and pleasure to have met quite a few of the members here and - with one exception - I had imagined them to be totally different from what they are.

The one where I had imagined correctly, however, was absolutely spot on!

I'm talking about visual impressions here - but when it comes down to personalities and how each person is in real life, I have not been wrong on any occasion.

Btw - all those that I have met IRL, I have found to be really lovely people to know.  happyheart
That is why I can say most sincerely - it has been a privilege and a pleasure to do so. Here's to each and every one of ye.  toast

Last one was correct, of course.  Easy peasy.   :thumb:

Today's is 'I'll be Home for Christmas'.

Loads of people have recorded that song - but the one here is Frank Sinatra - definitely!

@bimbow wrote:Today's song is "Sugar, sugar", by The Archies.

Oh yes, that's an easy one - one of my faves.   :thumb:

Adding a bit of 'Did you know ...?' here: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1137

This was the #1 song of 1969 in the US. It beat out songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Jackson 5, Elvis Presley, David Bowie, and Stevie Wonder. It was also a huge hit in the UK, where it stayed at #1 for 8 weeks.

The Archies were the group that performed on the Saturday morning cartoon Archie. The group itself was never seen, just the cartoon characters. The song was written by Andy Kim and Jeff Barry, and was performed by session musicians including Kim, Toni Wine, Ron Dante and Ellie Greenwich. Kim had a hit in 1974 with "Rock Me Gently," Dante produced "Mandy" for Barry Manilow and "Heartbreaker" for Pat Benatar. Greenwich has written many famous songs, including "Be My Baby" and "Chapel Of Love." Toni Wine wrote the hit songs "A Groovy Kind Of Love" and "Candida."

The Archies group was put together by Don Kirshner, a prolific promoter and producer. Kirshner also created The Monkees, and wanted to do the same thing with cartoon characters because they are much easier to work with than people. "Sugar, Sugar" was offered to The Monkees, but they turned it down.

Today is Acker Bilk with Stranger on the Shore.  Beautiful ........

(from Wiki) :

"Stranger on the Shore" is a piece for clarinet written by Acker Bilk for his young daughter and originally named "Jenny" after her.[1] It was subsequently used as the theme tune of a BBC TV drama serial for young people, Stranger on the Shore.[2] It was first released in 1961 in the UK, and then in the US, and reached number 1 in the US and number 2 in the UK.[3]
In May 1969, the crew of Apollo 10 took "Stranger on the Shore" on their mission to the moon. Gene Cernan, a member of the crew, included the tune on a cassette tape used in the command module of the Apollo spacecraft.

No inkling as to what today's song is, but from the bit that I can hear of it - I like it. Smile

Today's extract (or it might be yesterday's by now) is a rather slushy orchestration of Puccini: Quando m'en vo (Musetta's Waltz song) (La Bohème), but I've not been able to find it on Youtube, so don't know the performers.

But here's the lovely Renée Fleming singing it anyway.

Ramsey Lewis Trio - with "The In Crowd"

(This is frustrating now ... because for sure this was the signature tune to something on TV - but what was it? scratchhead
Was it The Old Grey Whistle Test(?) ... or Juke Box Jury(?) ... something like that ...... )
