Family who sent texts to mobile buried with late gran get replies 'from beyond grave'

Lesley Emerson's relatives had put the device in her coffin after her death from bowel cancer aged 59 but were shocked when they began to receive messages from it

Shocked Sheri Emerson received a message from her beloved dead grandma from 'beyond the grave' - after a cruel prankster was given her old number.

Lesley Emerson, who died aged 58, was buried with her mobile phone because she loved to send her loving family text messages.

Granddaughter Sheri and other close family members continued to 'contact' the dead grandma via SMS as a means of coping with their grief.

But a shocked Sheri got a reply telling her: "I'm watching over you, and it's all going to get better. Just push through."

There is a no brainer survey question that goes with that article asking people to answer yes or no.
Should O2 have given the number to another customer? judge But the article specificly says that O2 assured them the number would never be given to anyone else. If they had not given that assurance then it would be up to them what they did with the number, but as it stands O2 are definately in the wrong there.

At least the message was positive. The new owner of the number was probably only trying to help ease the relatives' grief and not intending to spook them. A good intention gone wrong.
It would have been more sensible to send a message back explaining that the number had been reallotted.

Now, imagine if this had been reported but a solution to the mystery hadn't (yet) been found. Wouldn't it be one of those "personal experiences" that "couldn't be explained".....

The only difference between this report and others, such as Michael Shermer's recent story, is that the rational explanation is known.

Not knowing what the rational explanation is doesn't mean there isn't one. no-no
