Thanks' button

Post by Stardust on Tue 12 Apr 2011 - 13:55

Kitkat, I saw the 'Thanks' button has replaced the thumbs up in each post.
But I thanked Pixie in the 'Lack of consideration' thread at least three times and the little phrase we had before (eg: 'Stardust has thanked Pixie') never appeared at the bottom of the post concerned, so I'm not sure if it worked or not.
If this has changed (eg to thanks in a PM), would you please explain how it works now. confused
Also, does this add to the 'Reputation' points for the person thanked, as you suggested previously? alien

Hi Stardust,
I think maybe you're getting mixed up with the 'Thanks' thumbs up button on Spiritlove!
Here the button for 'like' or 'dislike' or whatever one calls it - is still the plus and minus signs (I actually thought I had changed it to say 'thanks' - but I'm still seeing the plus and minus buttons ).
When you for example click on the plus sign in a post (and it will only accept that once from each member) - you will see in some posts there is a green bar that comes down the right-hand side. That indicates whether that post has been liked or disliked.

Also, does this add to the 'Reputation' points for the person thanked, as you suggested previously?
Yes, I believe that adds points to the poster's 'Reputation'.
I have 'thanked/plussed/liked' each member that has posted in the Introduction thread and this has automatically added on a point to their respective 'Reputations'.

Second thoughts ... it might just have added a 'point' onto their profiles ... not too sure now.

Thanks Kitkat.

I tried out the options.

Pressed the plus sign (+) and your 'Reputation' went up from 3 to 4.

Pressed the 'Thanks' button and both your 'Points' and 'Reputation' increased by 3 each:
'Points' from 4 to 8 and 'Reputation' from 65 to 68. Is this excessive?

But nobody knows where their points are coming from.

Good! So this query seems to be solved. What you need to do now Stardust is - go into 'EDIT' of your last post in this thread and find the button that says 'SOLVED' and click on it. (I can do it myself, but think it's better if the person asking the question does so, once they are satisfied that the matter is solved). :thumb:

I tried, Kitkat, but couldn't find any "Solved" button. Where exactly is it?
Are you sure it's not only available to Admin.?

Doesn't matter. I went into my original (first) post and added [solved] in front of the Post title.
Comes to the same thing.

Very Happy

Hmmm ... can't find it myself now. Question I must have inadvertently taken it off.

I know I did have it set for both admin and users to use. Will go and have a search and see what I've done.

Seems you found it Stardust. I still couldn't find it - but meantime I've created a different way to do it. It's now a button to click for 'topic icon'.

So now this 'Thanks button' thread is doubly solved. giggle

No, I didn't find any button, Kitkat. As mentioned in my post above, I went into my original (first) post and added [solved] in front of the Post title.

I can see your new 'solved' icon top left of each post, but when I pressed it nothing happened.

Can you now see the option to add the 'solved' icon to the title of the post? (as Is have done with all the solved threads here)

Re: Thanks' button

Post by Stardust on Wed 13 Apr 2011 - 11:38

lol, Kitkat. That's the third time you've posted while I've been editing my last post.

Nothing happens when I click on the 'Solved' icon, which is only visible in each post of the thread itself, but not when I've clicked on 'Reply' or 'Edit', so I don't yet see how it works.

Edited later: Apparently it works from the first post in the topic only, as that's the only way to modify the topic title, which is what I did before.

giggle OK - forget about the [solved] thingy for the moment. I've already marked all the solved fellas with the topic icon. How about you try this ... UN-CLICK the 'solved' icon in this post and let's see what happens.

Re: Thanks' button

Post by Stardust on Wed 13 Apr 2011 - 12:08

I had to 'edit' my first post several times in order to try out the different options.

The 'solved' icon does not appear in front of the topic title, when I tried it out I got the wording of the photobucket icon but not the icon itself.

The icon when clicked appears top left of every post in the thread, but not in the title.

So, I still had to go back and manually add 'solved' in front of the topic title of my first post in the thread.
That's the only way I found to do it myself, Kitkat, so perhaps it's best if you take care of it via your Admin. option.

Either way, I don't mind.

Coo, that was a bit long-winded.

LOL - Still coming back to this ... I think you get differing amounts of points for different actions that you do on here. e.g. Starting a new thread I think entitles you to 3 points, whereas posting a reply might be 1 point ... Still not sure, but what the heck. drunken

Re: Thanks' button

Post by Kitkat on Sat 11 Aug 2012 - 15:41

To make things a little bit easier ... the 'Reputation' wording in the profiles has now been changed to 'Karma'.

If you would like to give a 'Karma' point to someone in response to one of their posts - go to the post in question and click on the little plus mark in the top right-hand corner of each post. (You will not see any in your own posts, as obviously you cannot give yourself Karma). This karma point will be marked in their profile and also you will notice a little green bar will appear instead of the plus button. (This shows that you have already 'Karma'd' that post. Smile

(There is also a minus button there - where you can take away karma from a person if you deem it necessary).

Example: I have just 'Karma'd' Whiskers for signing the petition to save our hospital A & E departments. Her post now shows me a green bar, so I cannot give any more karma to that post. (One per person per post)
Her Karma count then went up from 2 to 3.

(I didn't notice though whether the Points count changed or not) - Still not terribly sure how the Points system works.
