Need help with homework (Hall Effect)

Post by loner55 on 16th October 2017, 10:40

So I'm a mechanical engineering student in London and I really need help with homework. I'm asking around in a lot of forums, hoping to find someone who can help me and explain to me what exactly the hall effect does. We're supposed to calculate it with this formula:

And yes, sure, I can just put in the numbers and be done with it but I would really like to understand what the purpose of the hall effect is. I have found this infograph online:

Can someone explain that one to me?

It's quite simple really .... You see ....   Um ... actually, I'm in a bit of a hurry, gotta go out now ... sorry, no time ...

But ...

Here's one I made earlier (as they say).     Hope this helps.  cheesy

An internet search should provide some answers, loner55, easier for you than the one above which you apparently don't understand.

There are also mechanical engineering forums though they usually say you mustn't post homework questions on there.

Well that was weird ...  confused.

My whole post above turned blue - and no, there was no swearing in it, or anything that could be considered 'blue' in other ways ... so I did a bit of investigating study ... and it seems when a message has been 'thanked' by another poster, it turns the background that lovely hue of blue.  Simple enough ...
BUT
I haven't enabled the 'Thanks' thingy on the forum and I wouldn't even know how to give thanks to another poster drunken confused  - so thank you for the 'thanks' to whomsoever did so - and please can you tell me how you did it!   Wink

(I've turned off the colour change for now and hosted the thanks buttons and enabled them (I think!)
(give thanks)
(thanks received)

but still don't know if it works, or what it's supposed to do.  geek

I'll do a bit more investigating ..................

I saw it while it was dark blue and wondered at it too, Kitkat.

I see your left column notes you have 22 thanks (and I've just seen I've got 12) but I never noticed that, nor a different colour, before.

I've been looking for the "Thanks" button and it appears to be available only to the original author (i.e. the person who started the thread in the first place) when a person replies to any post in that thread.

It shows up bottom right of the post, to the left of the blue "Quote" button.

I think those 'thanks' are there from way back when we tried out the 'Thanks' feature - calling it 'Karma'.  Couldn't really get the hang of it then either, now it's starting to come back to me.  I don't really see the point in it, tbh - I mean, if someone wants to thank someone for something, or agree/disagree with something they have written, is it not better that they just say it (or write it, to be more exact).  No, I think the whole thing really is superfluous to the needs of this forum - you can't even tell who has given you the thanks/karma - what's the point? .... shrug

I didn't realize that giving Thanks wasn't a Thing in this forum Smile I really like that feature though haha

It was me who has thanked you btw Smile The video was really helpful! So thanks, again! :P

Ah, so that would explain why I couldn't see the button, even after specifically setting it up.

Well, I would quite like the 'Thanks' feature if it worked in the same way as it does on other forums - though I still think it a nicer idea for people to personally address each other in a post.

Glad you found the video to be of some help anyway.
