The Scole Experiments

Post by KitKat on Mon 02 May 2011, 9:22 pm

Pixie, thanks for this link. I have been reading a bit into the site and from what I can make out, although the Scole Experiments as such were terminated in 1998, it would seem that the work and associated experimentation is by no means at an end and that various break-off groups were formed which continue to this day, some of these with the original members.
An abrupt and definitive halt to the SEG's work was called in late 1998 to the dismay of experimenters and investigators alike. But the group's work has been 'permitted' to continue in the form of smaller units of original members, and many other (currently some one hundred) amateur groups have now formed, using guidelines produced for this purpose.

It is also of particular interest (to me) to find that some of these groups may even be concerned with continuing on with the work of F.W.H. Myers. Myers was one of the people involved with The Cross Correspondences. Ever since I first read about the Cross Correspondences, I have been trying to find out more, but without success. It seemed as though this intriguing subject has been forgotten about and left to fade into history, unsolved and unfinished.

Having read more into the Scole Group's work, however, I'm delighted to find that this is not the case at all.
Throughout, there were allusions direct and indirect to the person of F.W.H. Myers and to previous evidential work. The Scole group's work thus appears to be an extension of work begun earlier; which has now had new life breathed into it by technological advances. The communication equipment built to order was described by its discarnate designers as "an experimental communication system [enabling the production of] work of the utmost importance to mankind".

I recognise the name of one of the original members mentioned, Robin Foy, and I know that he is very much involved in Physical Mediumship. I read something about him recently and know that he is involved with a website called Physical Mediumship 4 U - which I discovered some time ago, but as this is a closed site (you have to register to be able to read in), I didn't investigate any further at the time. The address is http://physicalmediumship4u.ning.com/
I'm thinking now it might be well worth joining to have a look in there and see what it's all about. (I see that Marion Dampier-Jeans is also a member there - an astoundingly accurate Danish medium that I saw many years ago demonstrate at the SAGB).

I am going to copy this thread over to the 'Our Mysterious World' section here, as I would really like to follow up on this particular topic.

It makes for interesting reading KK.

Some interesting points over on the JREF Forum from one guy in particular who has read the report....he speaks very highly of it lol

A skeptical analysis

http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4179

One of the comments being....

This skeptical analysis is well intentioned, but so full of inaccuracies it completely discredits itself. I produced and directed the documentary -The Afterlife Investigations - in which I thoroughly examine all the evidence for the Scole Experiment. I spent several years interviewing all the leading participants and I got to know them all well. As unbelievable as the activities at Scole are I found no evidence of fraud. The authors arguments like - I consulted with a colleague who told me its possible to remove a luminous arm, therefore all experiments which used this control at Scole are fraudulent- are childish in their logic. Given the space I could demolish this entire analysis - but its easier if you watch the documentary www.theafterlifeinvestigations.com

Should be interesting to see if he comes back with anything.

From what I can gather, there is no evidence of fraud. A lot of focus is being made about the lack of use of infrared, a lot of the comments made by skeptics about the experiments seem to begin and end with that point. I don't find that I can be so dismissive on the basis of that one point.

As Professor Arthur Ellison wrote the reply to the critics: 'No serious student of the Scole investigation can reasonably conclude that their four years' work and some 500 sittings, most of them closed to outsiders, warrants the assumptions (of fraud) implicit in such a practice ...' and 'None of our critics has been able to point to a single example of fraud or deception.'

The Scole Experiment.

Interesting subject but there are some who do believe it was very false.

Hi Whiskers.
I saw the complete video quite a while ago and was completely entranced in it.
I found it interesting and quite genuine as far as I know.
There have critisisms and and praise but wouldn't like to give an opinion unless I had all the facts at my disposal.

I haven't the expertise on mediumship that other members may have so cannot judge in all truthfullness what is correct and what is not.
I found the link on another site, can't even remember the name of the site.
But if you try the internet,by typing in Robin Foy,that may assist you or take you in the right direction.
Good luck.

Cheers Aussiepom. I found quite a lot of interesting stuff for Robin Foy. He and his wife have many years of experience regarding physical mediumship in particular. Haven't been able to find that video link though. If you remember the site you saw it on I would be interested to know.

Robin Foy and his wife have a PM site called (I think) PM4U.
Haven't got the full link but type that in to the net and I am sure it will come up.
I haven't got the video now,but if I come across it,will pm you. Smile
